Alaska - Day 2 (Highlights: Seward Scenic Highway, Seward, Alaska SeaLife Center, Kenai Fjords National Park, Exit Glacier, Terry's Fish & Chips)

Day 2, we drove 124 miles South on the Seward Scenic Highway towards a main destination of Seward.  We weren't even 20 miles from Anchorage and we encountered the most G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S. sight either one of us has EVER seen.  The below pictures are gorgeous, but believe me, do not even do this justice.  It is just something you have to see in person.  I even made the comment, "It feels like we are driving to Heaven."  My husband stated, "If anything else on our trip tops this, it will be amazing."

The weather went back and forth between raining/foggy to sunny.  Our first adventurous pull off was just a small pull off lot near one of the mountains on the Seward Scenic Highway.  We found a small trail and followed it back through some trees to this beautiful view.  Man, was I glad we decided to stop here.  Look at those blue waters.  Wow!

And then back on the road...

We found another gorgeous pull off, and had to carefully make our own trails down to the water.

Then, FINALLY...our first wildlife photo opp.  Two female Moose eating.  And it just so happened to be in this picturesque place.

And then we made it to our main destination - Seward.  What a neat little coastal fishing community.  Most of the restaurants and shops were closed, due to Winter and the lack of tourists, but we did find one place open - Terry's Fish & Chips.  I tried the Mushroom Swiss Burger and my husband tried the Scallops and Chips - both were pretty good.  Due to the lack of people in the town, we even got to chat awhile with Terry, before heading out to check out the rest of the town.

Credit for this photo goes to Terry's Fish & Chips facebook page (we forgot to take one)

We stumbled upon the Alaska Sea Life Center, a wildlife rehabilitation center in Seward.  We both truly enjoyed going through this aquarium type place.  They had several hands on areas, including one where you can touch and feel some of the sea life, such as crabs, star fish, etc.

And wouldn't you know that as soon as we walked out of the SeaLife Center, what did I spot in the tree?  A Bald Eagle!  The first one I have ever seen in the wild.  Breathtaking.

As we started to head back towards Anchorage, we found the entrance to the Kenai Fjords National Park.  We headed in, and we made it as far as seeing Exit Glacier, but the road was closed at approximately mile 6.

Finally, we headed back to the hotel.

And guess what, we found a pull off that we had missed on the way to Seward.  So we stopped.  It ended up being one of our favorite stops of the day.  We had a beautiful view, and we were able to walk out to the middle of the river in an area where the water got shallow.  There were gorgeous rocks for the river bed that were exposed and dry, so we took some photos and did a little rock hunting and then continued on our trip back.

One of the next things we encountered were these heavenly mountains, glowing so pure and white from the setting sun.  Breathtaking and sooooooo gorgeous.

Finally, we made the last leg of our journey just as the sun was setting very low in the sky, throwing beautiful color everywhere.

What an amazing day!  Our favorite so far!  If there is anything that tops it, we will have to be in Heaven itself!
