Alaska - Day 4 (Highlights: Denali National Park, Simon & Seafort's Saloon & Grill)

Today was spent driving to and from Denali National Park, approximately 240 miles North of Anchorage.  This was the one place I wanted to go on the trip.  It was a beautiful drive to and from, however we were very disappointed that they had already closed the park down to mile 3 due to recent weather and snow in the area.  We had kind of expected it, but had been hoping for the best.  We still enjoyed the scenery though.  We also saw 3 moose very close to the road, however, they were very tree covered and I could not get a good picture before they ran off.  Darn.  I also saw a fox run across an icy river, which was pretty cool...but once again...due to the fact that we were driving at the time, I could not snap a picture.

Our first glimpse of Mt. McKinley.  It looks like it is floating on clouds.  How crazy is it that we are still over 100 miles away?

This is our moose.  (There were actually three, but they were hidden very well, and this guy was fast, so no good pics).

On the way back to Anchorage, we decided we were craving some true Alaskan seafood.  We ended up at Simon & Seafort’s Saloon & Grill in Anchorage.  Mmmmmmm……we could not have picked a better place.  The best food, from any restaurant, ANYWHERE.  We had the crab and artichoke dip for an appetizer – very good.  And for our main meals I had the grilled filet mignon with crab oscar topping and Jake had the prime rib.  Mine was very good, but let me tell you something…I am not really a prime rib fan, but Jake kept saying his prime rib was the best ever, so I had to try it.  AMAZING.  I have never had a better piece of steak, ever.  We have already put this on our list for one more dinner before we leave and have planned that next time we come back to Alaska, this stop will be on this list.  If you ever visit Anchorage, go, and get the prime rib medium rare.  You will not regret it.
